If I have any regrets in my relationship with my mother, it would be that I did not ask her enough questions about her life or listen more intently to her stories. But there is one story she shared that I hope to never forget.
She was nineteenish when she met the guy who would become my dad.
According to Mama he was quite handsome and outgoing. The only problem she encountered–he was not a Christ follower. Thus she would not pursue a relationship thinking that was the end of that.
Later he asked to attend church with her and soon felt God leading him to give his heart to Jesus. And he did.
Several months later they married. Years later I was born. There was never any doubt where his allegiance lay. He loved God, his family, his church and the people God brought into his life.
So on this Mother’s Day I want to thank my mother, though she has passed away, for being faithful to her Heavenly Father and obedient to His Word for it was instrumental in shaping her story and consequently mine.
Note: If you are married to an unbeliever, love him well. Continue to pray for him to give his life to Christ and follow Him. Avoid nagging him regarding faith or lack of it. Wait on the Lord. (1 Peter 3:1)
